My thoughts to yours

Like most, if not all, of you, I have often gone through situations which would shake me emotionally and mentally. These ‘earthquakes’ would always leave behind scars and different kinds of fear; fear of the unknown, fear of being betrayed and fear of not being enough. Above all, these would also leave behind countless life lessons and opportunities to grow into who I am today and who I could be someday.

I would like to share a glimpse of what I have learned and what worked for me with nothing but hope that this might help at least one of you.

Embrace yourself. We are often told to be strong and to always keep our heads held high, probably because most people are not comfortable dealing with feelings of sadness or hurt. However, boxing those up in a drawer and running away does more harm than good. Letting ourselves feel the hurt and pain and allowing ourselves to mourn and cry is an important step in acknowledging what we are going through. Then, once we have poured our hearts out, self-healing begins by setting aside the damage caused and focusing on the bright side.

Draw your boundaries. Every passing day ultimately changes who we are as a person and paves the way for us to revisit our being. We should allow ourselves to carry out an introspection on a regular basis to discover who we are. This enables us to question and uncover our thoughts, our opinions, our needs, our wants and our expectations. Eventually, we are able to easily communicate these to those around us and let them be aware of who we are and how close they are allowed to walk next to us.

Let go. People are like waves; they come and go. While some leave behind the softest and faintest of footprints, others leave behind gaping holes which take more time and effort to cover up.  Regardless, no matter how much time it takes, we should learn to bid our farewell and let go of any negative feeling. Instead, our energy should be geared towards appreciating the moments spent together and being grateful for the lessons learned.

Trust the process. It is undeniable that experiencing such situations can be very painful, heartbreaking even. We are bound to face some darker days where hope will be dangling on a very thin line. It is important not to give up in these moments, even it if seems futile. Embracing these days and actively working towards bettering ourselves is a must. We will stumble a few times, maybe fall again, but we should persuade ourselves to get up and we will learn to shake away the dust and walk again.

At this point in my life, I hold what I have learned so far proudly above my head. I am scarred and I am a little scared but I am still learning and I feel myself running towards better things.

I hope that you do too.

Sending buckets full of love your way,
Kavya H. Saikia ðŸŒ¸
